Employee satisfaction starts with listening

Making sure employees understand their benefits is one of the best ways to increase satisfaction and boost work engagement. But being effective with communication is difficult, just 9 percent of respondents in one study indicated that their organization’s employees were “very knowledgeable” about the employer-sponsored benefits available to them.1 For those that are able to communicate and engage employees effectively, however, the rewards are significant. Employers with highly engaged workforces outperform their peers by 147% in earnings per share.2

Listening to employers

The outcomes from effective communication are clear, but do employers value that communication? The clear answer is “yes”.
  • When it comes to voluntary benefits, a carrier that provides education on how voluntary benefits can supplement their healthcare is the no. 1 driver of future purchases for employers.3
  • 81% of companies believe it’s important for employees to understand their benefits.4

Listening to employees

While employers may have ideas on how they want to communicate, at the end of the day, it has to fit with what works for employees and employees are clear about what they want: one-on-one communication.
  • 93% of employees said an enroller would be a helpful source of benefits information.3
  • 90% of employees who enroll one-on-one with an insurance representative express high levels of satisfaction with enrollment.3
Innovative solutions for employee engagement

Understanding general trends can help show how many employers value communication and how their employees prefer to receive communication, but there are elements of employee communication which have to be taken on a case-by-case basis. At Trustmark, we invite you to talk to us and learn more about how, by listening to our clients and creating tailored one-on-one engagement solutions, we deliver the communication that employees and their employers need.
